Education and Certification in Telemark Skiing Instruction.
Education:
- Join us at Fall Fest for the Telemark Core group in the AM and multidisciplinary electives in the PM!
Certification:
- Telemark Level 1 Jan 26-27 Red Lodge (prep offered on 25th)
- Telemark Level 2 & 3 Prep Clinic Big Sky Nov. 29th
- Telemark Level 2 & 3 certification April 21-23 in Summit County CO; exact location TBD.
Certification Levels
Prerequisites
- Current PSIA-AASI / PSIA-AASI NRM membership
- Level 1 Prep Course or recent Telemark Education course REQUIRED if you are not currently teaching at a PSIA-AASI Member School
- Complete and pass the Telemark Level 1 Professional Knowledge Exam
Assessment Modules
There are 3 modules in Level 1; all three must be passed during a single event to attain a Telemark Level 1 certification.
- Movement Analysis / Technical Understanding
- Ski Performance
- Teaching and People Skills
Professional Knowledge Exam
Telemark Level 1 Professional Knowledge Exam required (via the PSIA-AASI LMS).

An assessment to certify instructing Telemark Skiing in the beginner up to advanced beginner zone. Teaching experience and training is highly recommended before taking your Telemark Level 1.
Prerequisites
- Telemark Level 1 certification
- Complete and pass the Telemark Level 2 Professional Knowledge Exam
- Attend a Level 2 Telemark prep clinic or Telemark Educational Event
Assessment Modules
There are 3 modules in the Telemark Level 2 Assessment.
- Movement Analysis & Technical Understanding
- Teaching and People Skills
- Ski Performance
- Each Module is scored separately with written and verbal feedback.
- Passed modules are banked with the region — at a future assessment, you only join the module(s) you have not passed.
- To attain your Telemark Level 2 certification, you must pass all 3 modules.
Professional Knowledge Exam
Telemark Level 2 Professional Knowledge Exam required (via the PSIA-AASI LMS).

A Modular format assessment with bankable modules to certify instructing Telemark Skiing in the intermediate through early advanced zones. Candidates must ski all green and blue terrain, including bumps and un-groomed conditions, plus groomed moderate black terrain. Telemark Level 2 and 3 will be held as unified regional exams in the Rocky Mountain Region this season (26-27) and in the Western Region next season (27-28). Telemark Level 3 Professional Knowledge Exam required (via the PSIA-AASI LMS).

A Modular format assessment with bankable modules to certify instructing Telemark Skiing across all zones, including advanced. Requires the ability to ski and teach in all terrain types. Candidates must ski all green, blue, and black terrain (double black where available) in most conditions. Telemark Level 2 and 3 will be held as unified regional exams in the Rocky Mountain Region this season (26-27) and in the Western Region next season (27-28).
